Read Your World book haul: I won!

The Three-Year Tumble
by
Dayeon Auh
Translated by Tim Mohr

A grandfather is the colorful character in this inspiring Korean folktale translated from its first publication in Switzerland. The author lives in Germany. When the grandfather needs to go to the market, he must traverse a big mountain. Anyone who falls down the mountain is said to have only three years left to live. The colorful collage art is whimsical and unique with drawings, painted bits, and lively colors. Readers see the dreadful fall that the grandfather takes down the mountain depicted on the cover. The foreboding is looming and omnipresent. The grandfather rests and rests, convalescing and eventually seeking out the help of a doctor after three years of declining health. It isn't until the old man's clever granddaughter pays him a visit that he finds a way to keep going. The solution is so fun, logical and mathematical that kids and adults will want to reread the story for the brilliant and satisfying conclusion.

I won this delightful book published in 2025 by NorthSouth Books from an event I attended for Read Your World Party 2026.
